Celebrating International Women’s Day 2023
In conjunction with UNIT’s commitment to celebrate International Women’s Day, we will donate to 3 charities still fighting to support women and make women’s lives fair.
How do you choose the right charities…? You ask your own inspirational women at UNIT. We listened to them and they chose the following three;
- Bloody Good Period
- Housing For Women
- The Trussell Trust
Bloody Good Period –
UNIT’S sound designer, Hannah Webster worked on the film “Typically” last year.
A campaign for Bloody Good Period. Bloody Good Period aims to provide sanitary towels, menstrual resources and hygiene products to those who can’t afford them.
Nell Simmonds, MCR OP at UNIT writes – “ All Girls and women should have access to products. No one should feel uncomfortable or embarrassed because of not having the products they need.’
Housing For Women –
Since 1934, they have been working to build a more equal society for women. A world where everyone has a safe roof over their head regardless of circumstance, where violence against women is no longer tolerated. Their organisation’s roots go back to the Suffragette Movement.
Sarah Antrobus. Senior producer at UNIT writes – “ Through affordable housing they relocate domestic abuse survivors as well as survivors of trafficking, women leaving prison and older women.”
Esme Collins, MCR OP at UNIT writes – ‘Statistics state 1 in 4 women will experience some kind of abuse in her lifetime, a harsh reality that a lot of us sadly share in common. Yet us women have the special ability to come together and create safe spaces for each other”
The Trussell Trust –
This charity support’s a nationwide network of food banks and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
Tania De Sousa, Senior producer at UNIT writes “My nomination is to a food bank/charity, as it breaks my heart that anyone is going hungry, especially mummy’s who skip meals to feed their kids. With the cost of living this is becoming more and more an issue, there saying it is 1 in 4 mums”
Louise Stevenson, Head of Scripted writes “ These charities all make a huge difference to so many women in different ways, and I’m proud to be a part of a company that celebrates the importance of International Women’s Day and helps raise awareness of issues still facing women today.”
