Meet the Team – Cuppa with UNIT’s hugely popular Facility Manager Lawrence Tatler

We sat down with Lawrence our Facility Manager to chat all things UNIT.

Lawrence and his team keep the UNIT running smoothly behind the scenes and ensuring staff and clients have a comfortable and productive environment. Here’s what he had to say…

Q1. What drives you as Facility Manager?

The opportunity to run a safe and efficient Post Production House as well as creating a comfortable creative environment for everyone who uses our space.

It can be challenging to balance everything, ensuring the building systems run smoothly and cost-effectively, but also ensuring UNIT employees and our clients have an environment that enhances their well-being and productivity.

I love problem-solving—when something breaks, figuring out how to fix it quickly and efficiently is rewarding. It’s all about being proactive, anticipating needs before they become issues and always looking for the best way to improve processes and workspaces.

Q2. How is it being part of the dynamic UNIT team?

I thoroughly enjoy being part of the team, every day is different and there’s always something going on. I’ve gained a lot of insight into running a studio during my time here and I’m constantly learning week on week.

Q3. How has it been moving to the new UNIT Studio in Fitzrovia?

The relocation of UNIT was definitely challenging, with a lot of factors working against us. There was a lot to do within the time frame and making sure everything was planned meticulously was the key to its success. Long days and nights were frequent, however having a strong Tech team besides me definitely helped, Thanks Maitland and Ed!

Q4. What’s a day in the life of a Facility Manager like for you?

A day in the life of a Facility Manager consists of a variety of tasks, problem-solving, and interacting with various staff members and clients. My mornings generally consist of ensuring everything in the building is operationally ready for the day ahead, as well as completing regular checks for fire safety and building compliance. Throughout the rest of the day I will be liaising with contractors and suppliers, answering questions for staff members and carrying out checks around the office.

Q5. What’s the best part about your job?

My favourite part of the job is managing our Runner team. Watching with talent  from the start of their post production journey and being part of their journey as they progress through the ranks is extremely rewarding.

Our current UNIT Runner team consists of Amanda and Lara, who are both amazing people and working with them never fails to brighten my day!

Q5. What are you watching / reading / listening to right now?

I’m currently listening to a lot of folk/country music, Chris Stapleton and Gregory Alan Isakov are probably two of my current favourites. I’ve been watching Yellowstone and 1883 – both were fantastic to watch and also probably explains the current addiction I have for country music.
